Bathrooms in the UK have a rich and interesting history. A recent discovery of five stone blocks protruding from a castle wall in Bolsover, Derbyshire, have archaeologists believing they've uncovered what may be the first bathroom built in Britain.
The humble bathroom has changed somewhat over the years. Born out of ritual cleansing and relaxation, baths have long existed in human culture. Originally large public pools, bathrooms evolved over time from small private pools which were used in many more affluent homes as a method of relaxation. It wasn’t long before the bathroom became a more humble place used for cleaning, with every household having a bathroom of some sort. Often the bath was moved out of the bathroom and into the kitchen on a Sunday and filled with a kettle, with the youngest member of the family being bathed last in the then cold and murky water.
How times have changed! Every household now has at least one bathroom. In its most literal sense, the bathroom is a room which contains a bath. However, the shower has also become a common feature of the modern bathroom. It offers a quick and easy freshen up at any time of the day!
When it comes to designing and/or updating your property, a well designed bathroom is a great way to add value. The addition of an En-suite bathroom or downstairs cloakroom is also a bonus when it comes to valuations. What’s more, a well designed bathroom can become a real design feature in any home and with loads of great bathroom suites, bathroom basins, baths and showers to choose from here at Bathroom Heaven, getting that look you want couldn’t be easier. |
